About Mongoose Crowd

Mongoose Crowd’s goal is to offer our members the opportunity to support projects that combine real financial, environmental and social returns. We are the UK’s first dedicated crowdfunding platform for community energy projects serving the growing number of investors who want to take more control over their personal finance and investments.

Mongoose Crowd has been designed to offer a range of opportunities in UK renewable energy projects, backed by owners that care about their long-term performance.

A typical project will:
  • Offer between 4-7% returns
  • Have a long-term owner that cares about its ongoing performance
  • Is a new or operational project
  • Is connected to the local community that it is based in

Mongoose Crowd has been established by Mongoose Energy, one of the UK’s leading community energy companies. Since its launch in early 2015, Mongoose Energy has helped bring more than 66 MW of solar power into community ownership as well as finance more than £70 million of renewable energy projects in the UK. Mongoose Energy is now a leading player in the growing market for locally owned community energy businesses.

Currently Mongoose Energy has £73.5m worth of assets under management:

About Mongoose Energy

Mongoose Energy works with community groups, commercial project developers and investors to identify, develop, finance, build and manage profitable community-owned renewable energy installations (solar, wind, hydro). We are committed to promoting and developing a radically different approach to UK energy – one with people at its heart. We help local communities gain ownership and control over the energy they generate and use as well as make sure they receive the financial, social and environmental benefits it creates.

By supporting the development of community energy projects, Mongoose is helping to redefine the energy industry. Together, we are challenging a system that relies on carbon intensive fuel sources; prioritises centralised generation run for the benefit of large, remote corporations; and threatens UK energy security in an increasingly unstable market.

It’s no small undertaking but one that we know is possible. To help guide our activities, we follow these three key principles in everything we do:

  • Prioritise community ownership
  • Maximise community control
  • Ensure local communities benefit

As part of its mission to increase community ownership of renewable generation assets, Mongoose has financed the UK’s largest portfolio of community owned solar farms, where commercial developers partner with community energy groups to develop larger sites. These include Braydon Manor in Wiltshire and Orchard in Kent, the UK’s largest community-owned solar site.

Mongoose Energy is majority owned by 10 of the UK’s largest community energy groups: Bath & West Community Energy, Bristol Energy Cooperative, Chelwood Community Energy Ltd, FRECO, Low Carbon Gordano, Meadow Blue Community Energy, Nottinghamshire Community Energy, Orchard Community Energy, Wight Community Energy, and Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy.
